Midsummer update

Just thought I'd give a quick update on the gladiator sandals I bought from Office in their size 9 (European 42). They are BRILLIANT. I bought a pair in dark brown, then spent the late June heatwave in them. Not a single blister. I wore them day in, day out, and they stayed extremely comfortable the whole time. So just before I went on holiday, I bought another pair, this time in black, which have proved just as comfy (though they've taken a little longer to wear in). Thumbs up for these shoes. I'm waiting for them to go on sale, at which point I will be buying a pair in every colour. Comfortable, stylish, fashionable. That's a rare thing in a shoe.

The only downside is that after spending nearly a month in them in the sun, I have really stupid tan lines...

Now the search is on for a pair of flat black boots. This could take some time...

Can you clarify for me about the mystery of a UK 9 being a 42/43. I always took it that a nine was a EUR43 but some sites to seem to have them down as a 42. I buy most of my shoes on Cinderella Shoes and their nine is a 43 and depending on the manufacturer they always seem to fit me perfectly... Thanks, Carmel.

Hi Carmel,

It's got me stumped too. Some places seem to list a 9 as a 42; others as a 43. I wish there was some sort of uniform sizing so you could order something and know to a certain extent what you were getting, but no. I don't want to order something that's a 9/42 only to find it's actually an 8. Jones Bootmakers have started doing the 9/42 thing all of a sudden, and a lot of the high street cheapy shops do it too. It makes ordering online ten times harder than it already is, especially as I am at the 9.5 end of the scale!
